چکیده

We present a study of molecular outflows using high-resolution mapping of the CO (1-0) line emission toward eight relatively nearby 6.7 GHz methanol masers, which are associated with massive star forming regions. Outflows were detected in seven out of eight sources, and five of them clearly show bipolar or multiple outflow morphologies. These outflows have typical masses of a few solar masses, momenta of tens of M⊙ km s , kinetic energies of ∼ 10 ergs, and the mass entrainment rate of a few 10M⊙ yr . They have significantly more mass and kinetic energy than their low-mass counterparts. In some of the sources, the massive outflow is obviously associated with a particular massive star in the cluster, while in others the origin remains uncertain. The high detection rate of outflows toward methanol masers suggests that the outflow phase of massive protostars encompasses the methanol maser phase. Precessing Jets and Molecular Outflows: A 3-D Numerical Study

– 2 – We present 3-D numerical hydrodynamical simulations of precessing supersonic heavy jets to explore their evolution, how they differ from straight jets and how well they serve as a model for generating molecular outflows from Young Stellar Objects. The dynamics are studied with a number of high resolution simulations on a Cartesian grid (128x128x128 zones) using a high order finite differe...

A Global Jet/Circulation Model for Young Stars

Powerful, highly collimated jets, surrounded by bipolar molecular outflows, are commonly observed near Young Stellar Objects (YSOs). In the usual theoretical picture of star formation, a jet is ejected from a magnetized accretion disk, with a molecular outflow being driven either by the jet or by a wider wind coming from the disk. Here, we propose an alternative global model for the flows surro...

Interaction of Infall and Winds in Young Stellar Objects

The interaction of a stellar or disk wind with a collapsing environment holds promise for explaining a variety of outflow phenomena observed around young stars. In this paper we present the first simulations of these interactions. The focus here is on exploring how ram pressure balance between wind and ambient gas and post-shock cooling affects the shape of the resulting outflows. In our models...

On the transfer of momentum from stellar jets to molecular outflows

While it is generally thought that molecular outflows from young stellar objects (YSOs) are accelerated by underlying stellar winds or highly collimated jets, the actual mechanism of acceleration remains uncertain. The most favoured model, at least for low and intermediate mass stars, is that the molecules are accelerated at jet-driven bow shocks. Here we investigate, through high resolution nu...

Molecular Outflows from Young Stellar Objects

We review some aspects of the bipolar molecular outflow phenomenon. In particular, we compare the morphological properties, energetics and velocity structures of outflows from high and low-mass protostars and investigate to what extent a common source model can explain outflows from sources of very different luminosities. Many flow properties, in particular the CO spatial and velocity structure...
